Convention Committee … Fall 2022
by Lillian Cabral and Joanne Strauss
Time to get out your calendars and save these dates for Convention 2023: April 28-30, 2023 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, NY. We are excited to announce the theme is Building Up Christ’s Community. Our theme scripture is Micah 6:8 (NRSV). “He has told you, all mortal, what is good, and what does the lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?”
The keynote speaker/Bible Study leader is Rev. Marsha Scipio, Director of Baptist
World Aid at the Baptist World Alliance. Prior to this position she was the Associate General Secretary for Missional Initiatives and Partnerships at ABC USA. She is also Youth Pastor at The Berean Baptist Church in Brooklyn.
Rev Dr Kadia Edwards, based in New Jersey, will be our Sunday morning preacher. She will also lead a workshop on Storytelling. She was the speaker at one of the Fall
2021 Let the Walls Fall Down national webinars entitled The Power of Storytelling for Racial Healing. You can view a recording of the webinar on our national website, www.abwomensministries.org under events and past webinars.
Another featured guest, who may be familiar to many of you, is Rev Dr Pat Hernandez, Associate General Secretary for American Baptist Women in Ministry and Transition Ministries with ABCUSA. She will be sharing how ABWM played an important role in her spiritual journey as well as leading a workshop.
Six of us from NY were at the national ABWM conference this summer and were blessed to hear all three of these women speak and look forward to bein inspired and challenged by them again.
There are several other workshops and of course a crafts workshop.
New this year: Young Adult Women’s workshop led by Rev Yana Cruz-Pagan and an ABGIRLS Workshop. You will have the opportunity to attend up to 3 workshops. Many will be offered twice because last year’s feedback indicated it was hard to choose when several workshops were offered only once at the same time.
As usual we will be having a silent auction on Friday night and an ice cream social plus a few surprises at the Saturday banquet. So mark the dates on your calendar, Friday-Sunday, April 28-30 at The Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, NY. Look for those registration packets in the mail next year!
