Editor … Spring 2021
I have had Facebook/email conversations with a few recently that have been something like this:
Me: “I think many of us are feeling at a loss recently…”
Them: “Yes.”
We have all been through a lot in the last 18 months. Whether you have been in a leadership position, supporting someone who is, teaching, working, doing all the above while trying to help kids alongside… it has been a rough time for many of us.
Self-Care?
Self-care has been espoused by many, but there is still confusion on what it really means, and sadly still guilt associated with actually needing to take some time. It is a practice that is hard to implement, and is something we need to make sure those in leadership, caregiving, and support are taking time to do. You might need to give them (and yourself) permission.
Try asking yourself this question…
“What do I need right now?”
Water?
Physical Nourishment (food)?
Mental Nourishment (something that uplifts you)?
Someone to talk to?
Try to check in with yourself and make sure you are not clenching your jaw, relax your shoulders, take a deep breath and evaluate how you truly feel.
Then do something that helps you feel better. Get some hydration. Go stand on the grass and breathe for a few minutes. Be outside in the breeze. Truly look at the flowers, hear the birds, imagine shapes in the clouds. What is your body, and God trying to tell you in this season?
Praying you hear the gentle whispers.
Becky
