Secretary … Spring 2018

by Lorraine Brownell

Here we are at the close of another year of our ABW Ministries and the beginning of a new year. This ends my term as ABWM/NYS Secretary and I thank each one of you for your faithful devotion to your task at your Association and local levels.

Each of us have important jobs to do no matter the size of that job. I’ve enjoyed corresponding with so many of you through these three years. You have all been a blessing to me and I know you are to those around you.

I’d now like to introduce you to our new secretary – new in this job but not new to us. Laura Palada has accepted this new task and I know she will do a great job fulfilling this position.

Welcome Laura!

Laura is a past president of our ABWM/NYS, 2013 – 2016. Married to an American Baptist pastor, Rev. Randy Palada for almost 27 years and he is recently retired after 30 years of full time pastoral ministry. Laura is an RN, currently the Director of Quality and Patient Safety for a rural community hospital. They have two daughters – Khaya, who is completing her Master’s Degree in May and Elaina, who is a sophomore at University. They also have 3 cats and 2 horses.

She loves to sing and play piano (as well as playing the guitar), she enjoys reading, crocheting and swimming. She shares that she loves being an American Baptist woman and meeting new women from all over. She is looking forward to being secretary and connecting with our AB women this role. On the lighter side I will add that her favorite color is green and she loves all things chocolate. Welcome to this new position, Laura!

We need to hear from you!

Lastly and very importantly – Laura will be awaiting hearing from each association for contact people for the statewide directory. If your association did not get a form at the convention, just send Laura (either by mail or email) all of the following information. She will need this info by June 30th.

  1. Your officers (names, addresses, phone numbers & email addresses). Please contact all of your officers and make sure you they’ve not moved or changed their email or phone numbers. This will make our booklets correct and a more useful tool.
  2. The above information should be sent to 3 of us: Lillian Cabral, President; myself (Lorraine), “A Witness”; and Laura.
  3. The names & city of all of the churches in your associations sent to Laura as secretary. This is most necessary for our treasurer because sometimes she gets checks but she does not know which association they are in and having this information would clear up any confusion. Laura will pass this information on to Frankie Barton, our treasurer.
  4. I (Lorraine) would also like a list of your local presidents so that I can send them A Witness.

I close with our scripture from this year’s convention:

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

~ Jeremiah 13:29

God’s blessings on each one of you!
