Treasurer … Fall 2015
by Colleen Charsky
As I was thinking about our new theme “See…”, one of my favorite songs came to mind. The chorus and bridge of Brandon Heath’s “Give Me Your Eyes” goes like this:
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can seeA couple of million eyes
Just move and pass me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
I need a second glance
Give me a second chance
To see the way you’ve seen the people all along

This song was released in 2008 and received the Dove Song of the Year in 2009. This song captures the essence of what our theme “See..” is all about.
How much of Jesus’ ministry started by the passage “Jesus saw…” Jesus first had to “see” the sick, hungry, and brokenhearted before he could heal, feed, or teach.
Brandon Heath’s song is really a prayer where he is asking the Lord for Jesus’ eyes first to see the needs of people, then for His love to have compassion on them, and finally Jesus’ arms (hands) to actually reach out and physically help the broken hearted.
Secondly, it is a challenge for us to also do the same.
In one of our theme scriptures Luke 10:27b, Jesus tells us to “Love your neighbor as yourself”. As that passage continues, He teaches us that our neighbors are anyone who needs help and especially those who are not in a position to help themselves.
So as we go about our lives, let us remember that Jesus placed us where we should be at that exact moment so that we “see” what He wants us to see and then respond as He would. This is the sole reason we exist as ABW women and the reason we support the work of ABW Ministries in NYS and nationally. God calls us not only to See but then to Do!
